Child Firearm Safety
Children are curious at all ages, especially of the unknown. Many parents believe that if they avoid the discussion of firearms, a child’s curiosity won’t exist and an accident won’t occur. Some parents might even believe that if they don’t own a firearm, their child won’t be exposed to the possibility of something harmful happening. With the number of gun owners increasing, (who might be your child’s friend’s parents, a neighbor, or family member) discovering an unsecured firearm is too common. Make sure your child is equipped with the necessary education in order to avoid a tragedy.
Elite Firearms offers different classes for all ages
Child Firearm Safety Class: This class is for ages 4-9 years old. The cost is $40 and lasts about 1.5 hours. Using material from The Eddie Eagle GunSafe® Program, developed by the NRA, the main goal is to emphasize that if a child sees a gun they should “stop, don’t touch, leave the area, and tell an adult.” This class also discusses real vs. fake firearms so that children can see how difficult it is to determine the difference. Lastly, this class covers different scenarios, such as “what do you do if you friend finds their parent’s gun?” Going over real life possibilities will help your child avoid dangerous situations. (Children will be given a packet of helpful articles to take home to their parents to read.)
Teen Firearm Safety Class: This class is for ages 10-15 years old. The cost is $55 and lasts about 3 hours. This class covers the rules of firearm safety (in-depth), how firearms operate, how to properly load/unload a firearm, proper shooting techniques, and ammunition and cartridge malfunctions.
